5089232_sThe US government continues to create lofty goals for the nation’s renewable energy future. Earlier this year, in April, the US Department of Energy published their Wind Vision report, announcing some very ambitious targets for wind energy.

Indeed, it seems like we will have our work cut out for us in order to meet these targets. Here are the raw figures (in terms of percentage of overall national generation capacity): The DOE wants to see 10 percent wind power by 2020, 20 percent by 2030, and 35 percent by 2050.

These targets are not hard, regulatory requirements, but rather an ideal to strive toward. So far, growth in renewables has outstripped similar projections by the DOE. Wind energy alone currently makes up about 5 percent of national energy production, a nearly fifty-fold increase over the last fifteen years. And the technology only continues to gain momentum.

If growth continues at this pace, it’s entirely possible that we can make it to 35 percent in the next 35 years. On top of that, this report is just goals for wind. Current data shows that capacity additions for wind and solar are coming in at nearly the same pace. We may make it to a fully renewable power profile within a lifetime, which is a very exciting proposition.

As renewable growth continues, the market for optional renewable products continues to grow with it. Community choice aggregations are helping drive demand for retail renewable power products and distributed generation resources.

Here at AGR Group, we are pleased to be a part of the growing renewable energy revolution. We have provided customer service to clean power community aggregations, and we have experience with marketing and servicing renewable power products.
